¤ Acupuncture; How it Works
- Acupuncture is the insertion of very thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate peripheral mechanisms (skin, muscle, bone and other tissues) which have thousands of nerve ending within a single millimeter. There are four aspects to Chinese Medicine that need to be functioning well in order to be healthy.
- Qi (Oxygen, air) delivery to the tissues
- Vascular System
- Organ System
- Nervous System
- If there is an obstruction in the blood flow to a particular area of the body, that area of the body will be negatively affected, resulting in disease or malfunction. Any area of the body that is damaged due to trauma or an internal disorder will have difficulty recovering if there is a reduction in blood flow. When stimulating Acupuncture points along the nerve pathways or vessels it generates electrical signals [action potentials] along specific nerve fibers to the spinal cord, brain and associated physiological systems and internal organs. Signaling biochemical events in the human body adjusts homeostasis to restore health at a more rapid pace [0.001s] to a few seconds [1.0s] than with rest alone. These signals are relayed at microscopic levels and peak performance relies on the coordinated order of progression within microscopic electron events.
¤ Moxibustion
- Moxibustion or (Moxa) is a method whereby a combination of herbs are dried, ground into a powder or "wool" and burned on or above acupuncture points. Its nature is pure thus when used the heat penetrates to warm the channels and is therefore useful in the treatment and maintenance of health. Sometimes moxibustion is more effective than Acupuncture, whereas at other times the two have a synergistic effect.
¤ Cupping
- Cupping is the placement of glass cups over certain areas of the body with the use of vacuum pressure. Cupping can often provide immediate relief from painful symptoms by improving circulation and relieving pain.
¤ Fitness & Performance/Personal Training
- Movement Preparation- Is an active series of warm up exercises that will efficiently increase core temperature, lengthen, strengthen, stabilize and balance your muscles to prepare the body for movement.
- Therapeutic "Pre-hab" Exercises- Are prescribed to protect your body from the dysfunction and pain brought about by lack of movement or exercise. This routine protects you from shoulder pain, lower back trouble, hip pain, knee and foot problems. The exercise movements help stimulate body awareness to improve musculoskeletal control and proper mechanics during training, sports and daily activities. These movements support and reinforce each patient's healing. The absolute minimum required to sustain quality of life.
- Strength and Circuits Training- This is where you become more efficient. By training in a circuit and alternating movements, you will be in constant motion that emphasize different parts of the body. Like athletes who train to master their sport, we need to train to master the movements that are required to compete in life.
